Mercè Bruguera Abelló is a Catalan mezzo-soprano, pursuing a career as an international soloist both in the UK and throughout Europe. Well-acquainted with both operatic and song repertoire, she won the Elena Gerhard Lieder Prize and was Highly Commended in the Marjorie Thomas Art of Song Prize. Winner of the 2023 Primer Palau Critic’s Prize, she also was the festival-opening Young Artist of LIFE Victoria's Festival 2021/2022 as well as semifinalist in the Tenor Viñas Competition 2023.

She has established herself as a familiar face at the top of the Europe's bustling early music scene both soloistically and as a member of some of the finest ensembles around the continent, including Jordi Savall’s La Capella Reial, Ton Koopman’s Amsterdam Baroque Choir, Shunske Sato’s Netherlands Bach Society and Jonathan Cohen’s Arcangelo among others.

Future highlights include her debut at the Palau de la Música Catalana performing Mathew Passion with Christoph Prégardien, a song recital tour across Spain as representative artist of Joventuts Musicals Catalunya as well as doing her Netherlands debut with Netherlands Bach Society in their upcoming touring project “JS Bach: The Apocalypse”.

“Mercè Bruguera gives a striking performance as the vengeful Sorceress. With her tangy tone and composed, yet menacing, demeanour, she is a force to be reckoned with.”
