Mercè Bruguera is a Catalan mezzo-soprano based in London, pursuing a career as an international soloist both in the UK and throughout Europe.

She holds a Master of Arts with Distinction from the Royal Academy of Music, studying with Catherine Wyn-Rogers and Joseph Middleton. Well-acquainted with both operatic and song repertoire, she made her operatic debut as Orfeo in Gluck’s ‘Orfeo ed Euridice’ - other roles include Cornelia in Handel’s ‘Giulio Cesare’, Dido & Sorceress in ‘Dido & Aeneas’ and Orlofsky in Strauss’s ‘Die Fledermaus’. During her studies, Mercè won the 2018 Elena Gerhardt Lieder Prize and was a member of the prestigious Song Circle at the R.A.M where she performed assorted recitals as part of the European series ´Transcending Borders’ in London.

Mercè also maintains a close connection with her home country, performing frequently across Spain. After her debut at the Palau de la Música Catalana as young artist of the Primer Palau 2023 scheme, she’s been awarded with the Critic’s Award 2023 a well as joining the JM Catalunya Network, performing an assorted of recitals in seasons 24/25.

Mercè also performs regularly as a soloist with a variety of ensembles across the UK and in Europe. Recent highlights on the concert platform include Matthew Passion with Christoph Prégardien and Vespres d’Arnadí, Messiah with Instruments of Time and Truth, Couperin’s Leçons de ténèbres at the Espurnes Barroques Festival in Spain, and a touring staged production with the Netherlands Bach Society.

She is looking forward to returning as alto soloist for Ex Cathedra’s annual performance of Bach’s Passion in April 2024, having joined them as soloist earlier this year. Other upcoming highlights include touring with the Netherlands Bach Society once again in May 2024, as well as singing with the chorus of the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden.
